Cosmetic Procedures

As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon Dr. Shirley has a surgical and dental background, because of this he is uniquely qualified to perform cosmetic procedures that involve the esthetic and functional aspects of the face, mouth, teeth and jaws. Extensive education and training in surgical procedures involving soft tissue (skin and muscle) and hard tissue (bone and cartilage) make the oral and maxillofacial surgeon acutely aware of the need for harmony between facial appearance and function. After completing his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery Dr. Shirley went on to complete a fellowship in maxillofacial oncology and reconstructive surgery. During this fellowship he was mentored by renowned facial plastic surgeons and maxillofacial surgeons. Dr. Shirley is proud to still serve as faculty to pass along the mentorship he received.

During his years as associate faculty at university health and as chief oral and maxillofacial surgeon at Overton Brooks Medical center Dr. Shirley became a Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. Few surgeons are eligible to become a fellow in the american academy of cosmetic surgery. Once eligible the surgeon has his cases reviewed by and panel prior to being granted fellowship.

Because of Dr. Shirley’s broad scope and experience he was also granted a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. This is rigorous exercise where a surgeon is evaluated over a year and interviewed by a panel of surgeons. Few oral and maxillofacial surgeons are granted this award and Dr. Shirley is proud to be a fellow in both the American College of Surgeons and American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.

Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) removes fat, excess skin, and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. It can correct the folds of relaxed skin and bags in the upper and lower lid areas. The benefits of eyelid surgery are a more youthful and rested appearance, as well as a relief of fatigue around your eyes and an improved field of vision.

Face Lift

A facelift procedure (rhytidectomy) rejuvenates your appearance. Facelift surgery does not correct forehead wrinkles, sagging eyebrows, excessive skin and fatty deposits in the upper and lower eyelids, nor does it affect the bone which gives your face its understructure. It pulls the skin more tightly over the supporting muscles and bone.

Dermatology

Anyone can get skin cancer—no matter what your skin type, race or age, no matter where you live or what you do. Skin cancer is diagnosed by removing all or part of the growth and examining its cells under a microscope. It can be treated by many methods, depending on the type of cancer, its stage of growth, and its location on your body. Small skin cancers can often be excised quickly and easily in our office.
